About Rocket Lab
Founded in June 2006 as a center for advanced space systems, Rocket Lab’s goal is to remove the commercial barriers to space. In support of this, Rocket Lab is developing the Electron orbital launch vehicle. Electron is a small launch vehicle capable of lifting a 150 kg payload to a 500 km sun-synchronous orbit.

About The Role
As a test technician for Rocket Lab you will be working on the electrical and electromechanical assemblies of the Electron Launch Vehicle avionics and Rutherford rocket engine. Electron is a unique LOx and kerosene vehicle in which the rocket engines are powered by electric pumps and batteries.
For the avionics testing there are flight computers, general avionics computers and control systems. For the engine testing there are motor controllers, engine computers and electromechanical actuators. All of which need to be tested for space flight. This test technician role fills the responsibility for the testing of these components and signing them off for use on the vehicle.
Specifically, day to day tasks will involve functional testing, bench testing, vibration and environmental testing. Technical capability with testing apparatus is critical to ensure all component are tested to the appropriate levels to be accepted for spaceflight. Superb hand skills are required with a good eye for detail to ensure all components meet the performance and quality requirements.
- Industry or trade certified
- 3+ years of experience in electronic component assembly for aerospace applications
- Talented with electrical assembly tools, bench testing and measuring instruments
- Experienced with vibration tables
- Experienced with thermal environment chambers
- Experienced with vacuum chambers
- Excellent time management and the able to work overtime and long hours if needed
- Eye for detail and a methodical, tidy and careful work ethic
- 5+ years of industry experience with vibration tables, vacuum and environmental chambers
- Experience with in-space electrical assemblies
- Experience with Labview
- Knowledgeable in manufacturing process and continued product development
You must have the ability to work in New Zealand for an initial training period, this could be up to 2 months. Also, you will need to have the ability to make trips to the New Zealand facility for training and helping out as necessary. The role will otherwise be based in Los Angeles.
