About The Role

We are looking for a Health and Safety Consultant to join us on a 3-month fixed term contract*.


Our employees and management team are self-sufficient and proactive, and there is strong buy-in across the board to promote a positive health and safety culture. To take us that next step up the health and safety ladder, we want someone who can take the work that has been completed by individuals across the business and consolidate it into a streamlined and user friendly health and safety process, as well as create and implement H&S policies and practices where required.


This is a varied role that will see you running the monthly H&S Committee Meeting one minute, writing a standard operating procedure the next, and liaising with multiple people to investigate a near miss a moment later. 


During your first couple of weeks you will build relationships with key contacts in Auckland and Mahia, pull together a project plan to improve H&S across the business, and take the reins for any H&S related administration. For the remainder of the contract you will continue to develop our systems, manage H&S reporting and communications, and coach existing employees so they are confident continuing the processes you put in place.


As a team consisting of analytical engineers and inquisitive minds, you will appreciate our need to understand the reasons behind the policies you implement and recommendations you make. You will be an exceptional people person with a wealth of practical experience in health and safety, and as such will have a knack for explaining the benefits and risks of different alternatives to those that ask. Your innate creativity will lead you to think outside the box to provide sustainable and cost effective solutions. 


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 5 + years’ experience in a H&S leadership or advisory role
  • A solid grasp of the production and manufacturing industry
  • Proven project management experience
  • Exceptional people skills
  • A thorough understanding of the HSWA
  • Be keen to travel regularly to Gisborne and Mahia
