FLUID SYSTEMS ENGINEER I/II

Based out of Rocket Lab's headquarters in Long Beach, CA the Fluid Systems Engineer is responsible for critical Neutron vehicle & facility fluid systems from design through build and launch. You will work in the Fluid System team and deliver functional vehicle and ground systems required to operate Neutron.

Please note: this position can be hired at the Fluid Systems Engineer I or Fluid Systems Engineer II level.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

  • Design, build, test, and launch critical flight fluids hardware
  • Work with a global team to manage requirements, deliver functional hardware on time, and fly a vehicle for the first time
  • Utilize fluid fundamentals to complete analysis, from hand calcs to advanced simulation tools
  • Coordinate with vendors, manufacturing teams, and facilities groups to purchase and fabricate key subsystems
  • Plan and run critical system tests

QUALIFICATIONS YOU’LL BRING AS A FLUID SYSTEMS ENGINEER I:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or related fields
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics
  • A strong desire to learn

QUALIFICATIONS YOU’LL BRING AS A FLUID SYSTEMS ENGINEER II:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or related fields
  • 2+ years experience designing, building and operating complex fluid systems (e.g. aircraft hydraulics, oil & gas processing facilities, aerospace test & launch sites, rocket fluid systems)
  • Experience designing, building, and testing hardware
  • Experience modelling and validating product designs

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Master’s degree in a fluid mechanics-heavy field, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related fields with hands-on research experience
  • 3+ years experience designing and operating complex fluid systems for liquid bipropellant launch vehicles
  • Ability to predict complex fluid system behavior through application of engineering fundamentals
  • Experience with oxygen & methane systems
  • Knowledge of modelling tools (ANSYS, GFSSP, STAR-CCM, SindaFluint/Thermal Desktop, etc)
  • Knowledge of CAD & PLM tools (NX & Teamcenter, etc)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically able to commute to buildings
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.

Level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base Pay Range (CA Only)
$87,300$109,100 USD
