NEUTRON  

Neutron is a medium lift launch vehicle capable of delivering the mega constellations of tomorrow, high assurance payloads, and human spaceflight. As a highly reusable launch platform, Neutron will deliver a highly cost-effective and reliable launch solution leveraging Rocket Lab’s proven execution history with the Electron program.  

AFP OPERATOR  

Rocket Lab is installing the world’s largest post-style automated fiber placement machine (AFP) at our Space Structures Complex in Middle River in order to build large scale components for our new Neutron Launch Vehicle. As an AFP Operator you’ll get to build some of the largest carbon fiber composite fuselage structures ever made using cutting edge technologies and space grade materials.    

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:   

  • Run the Rocket Lab Automated Fiber Placement machine to build very large carbon fiber structures for our Neutron Rocket  
  • Work with Engineering and Programming teams on continuous improvement of our processes  
  • Engage directly with a total preventive maintenance program to ensure all equipment stays in safe and efficient condition  
  • Train on new processes and transition new components to AFP manufacturing  
  • Assist in setting up and calibrating the AFP machine for optimal performance   
  • Load and off-load composite tooling from the AFP machine  
  • Gain hands-on experience in loading and unloading composite materials onto the AFP machine, ensuring proper alignment and placement for the lamination process.   

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • 8+ years experience in Composites production and manufacturing. 
  • Ability to follow precise instructions and willingness to give feedback when instructions need improvement  
  • Experience operating large/heavy equipment  
  • Understanding of manufacturing environment and willingness to operate in a safe and effective manner  
  • Basic understanding of quality control, measurement systems, etc.   
  • Effective communication with a diverse team of Engineers, Technicians, Supervisors and others  

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:  

  • Associates Degree in a technical field  
  • Experience operating an AFP Machine   
  • Experience operating other robotic equipment  
  • Experience in an Aerospace   
  • Certified in crane or forklift opration  

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position.  
  • Must be able to move repetitively, bend or twist, and use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.  
  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods – 8 hours min   
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. unassisted. 

Level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base Pay Range (MD Only)
$30.50$40 USD
