About The Role

Rocket Lab has a newly created position available for an experienced Electrical Test Technician to join their Auckland based team currently working on the Electron Launch Vehicle. 


We are seeking an individual who can develop and execute verification and validation tests as well as troubleshoot and determine root cause for product quality issues. Your exact background isn’t critical but the role will require you to work on high voltage, high power battery systems so understanding of the hazards associated with these systems is critical. 


You will also need the ability to develop automated test systems for both hardware and firmware verification together with the ability to analyze quality data and determine what testing may be necessary to determine root cause of quality issues. This person will need to work closely with the design engineers to ensure high quality product performance.


Key duties include:-

  • Designing and documenting acceptance tests
  • Performing qualification tests on battery packs
  • Upgrading test equipment (charger, load tester, cell testing)
  • Designing and carrying out one-off tests
  • Involvement in the integration of vehicle testing
  • Analysing data from tests

All Tests undertaken will require consideration and measurement of:

  • High power electronics
  • Electrical noise
  • Battery internal resistance
  • Electrical breakdown
  • Temperature
  • Vacuum
  • Vibration

Minimum Requirements for the Electrical Test Technician

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • 3+ Years’ experience working with high voltage systems
  • Excellent knowledge of power electronics
  • Prior experience designing and building basic electrical circuits
  • The ability to design and carry out tests independently
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to document work and write procedures
  • Proven experience with data analysis
